The Middle East Gulf is heavily dependent upon exporting oil for revenue generation and consequently has a significant economic stake in any future international settlement to control and reduce emissions of CO2. Some countries have been particularly enthusiastic advocates of CCS technology while many have also recognised the massive potential for renewable energy, and particularly solar power, within the region. The region is already severely water-stressed and countries such as Syria, Israel and Jordan face huge problems in supplying enough water for human needs and agriculture.
