Football World Cup 2018
Young England fans enjoying a match at Wembley
England has decided to bid for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
A dedicated company, England 2018, has been formed to lead England's bid. England 2018 is positive the country can stage a fantastic festival of football to engage the whole country – and deliver positive change for football in England and across the world.
Why bid?
It is fair to say that football is somewhat of a national obsession. In 2007-8 30 million people watched matches in the top 4 professional leagues in England.
England also has a track record for hosting sporting events, every year England hosts world famous events such as the FA Cup Final, Wimbledon (Tennis), the Grand National (Horse Racing), Test Matches (Cricket) and the Six Nations (Rugby) to mention just a few. And of course, we will also be hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic games.
